Dustin Poirier headed into UFC Fight Night 94 with a ton of momentum. Riding a four fight win streak and cementing himself as a top-10 lightweight contender, Poirier looked to be on the verge of title contention.
On the night, however, things didn’t go to plan. The Diamond was caught by Michael Johnson with a swift right hook, left straight combination and suffered the second KO loss of his career.
Poirier was TKO’d by Conor McGregor in 2014 but used the loss to fuel his motivation as a fighter. The American Top Team product went on to reinvent himself as a highly-touted lightweight contender and will be going ‘back to the drawing board’ to see where things went wrong against Johnson.
At just 27-years-old, Poirier is still growing as a fighter and will look to spring back into the winners column in his next fight. In such a stacked division, Poirier could face any number of top-15 contenders. No. 14 ranked Evan Dunham, who has been slowly reclimbing the LW ladder, could be a suitable opponent for Poirier.
