The Internet battle between DJ Jackson and Garry Tonon may not be over, but Jackson won yet another battle as he took the crown at the Grappling Pro Championship on Sunday.
The Team Lloyd Irvin standout used his wrestling to dominate much of the competition in the inaugural event. The grappling event featured an intriguing set of rules that allowed Jackson to play to his strengths in ways that the other competitors were unable to stop. The points-based event allowed Jackson to use his strength to force push out points as he racked up high scores in this event. The victory allowed him to take home $10,000 in winnings.
Jackson defeated Garry Tonon in a highly anticipated match that has drawn attention due to the competitors taking shots at each other on all forms of social media. Jackson would get the last laugh as he would defeat Tonon again and move to 6-0 against Tonon and his teammates, the Danaher Death Squad. Jackson took to Instagram to continue the barbs against his rival.
“I’m 6-0 against the DDS. They are going to call me the DDS killer,” Jackson said in an interview with Flo Grappling. “The match went just like I thought it would. I scored points and he couldn’t. This was actually the first time he scored points against me.”
Jackson defeated multiple-time world champion, Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa in the finals with the score 6-3. Barbosa was an interesting challenge for Jackson with this rule set due to having the size and takedown abilities thought to rival DJ in that realm.
Barbosa would end the day taking second, while Tonon ended up with a third place finish. Enrico Cocco finished in fourth. The entire event is available for replay on FloGrappling.com.
