The UFC 202 pre-fight press conference resulted in anarchy, when both Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor ended up throwing water bottles at each other, cutting the event short. Now, both fighters are facing potential sanctions from the Nevada Athletic Commission.
The incident erupted when Diaz walked off the stage in the middle of the presser and began yelling expletives towards McGregor, who was answering some media questions at the moment. Diaz then threw a water bottle at McGregor, in which the Irishman retaliated with water bottles of his own, along with energy drink cans.
Per ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the Nevada Attorney General’s Office filed individual complaints against both Diaz and McGregor, citing that both men “are guilty of conduct that is detrimental to a contest or exhibition of unarmed combat.”
The specifics of their sanctions, however, have not been determined.
The fracas may have helped boost the viewership of the event, as it reportedly drew the highest PPV ever for the UFC, along with the fifth largest live gate for the promotion. McGregor was able to even the score against Diaz by winning via majority decision.
