Mickey Gall was at the center of attention on Saturday night at UFC 203, following his quite expected win over CM Punk. Right after the fight, he called out fellow “Looking for a Fight” catch Sage Northcutt.
“I got someone I want next. The fight everyone wants to see — I want “Super” Sage Northcutt, I think that boy’s corny; I want to punch the spikes out of his hair,” Gall told Joe Rogan during the post-fight interview.
During a backstage interview with Megan Olivi, Dana White revealed that Northcutt’s team got in touch with him, agreeing to Gall’s callout. For his part, the UFC president says they will “make it happen.”
Apparently, these plans may not take place soon, as confirmed by Sage’s father Mark. According to journalist Jonathan Shrager, the elder Northcutt dismissed the idea of the fight happening as early as UFC 205 in November, stating his son is battling staph infection, among “several things.”
Northcutt made his welterweight debut against Bryan Barbarena in January, which was unsuccessful, ending in a 2nd round submission loss. For the Mickey Gall fight, Mark Northcutt says going back to 170 pounds remains uncertain as of the moment.
Sage went back down to lightweight to face Enrique Marin at UFC 200, where he won by unanimous decision.
