Tonight, live from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, hometown hero Stipe Miocic defends his UFC heavyweight championship belt for the very first time. His opponent, Alistair Overeem is looking to make history by adding that UFC heavyweight strap to his already impressive collection of titles. But which big man (with big power) will walk away victorious in this, the first UFC event ever to be held in ‘the Land’ ?
Along with that potentially scintillating headliner, the pay-per-view card boasts a number of exciting match-ups. In the co-main we see former champ Fabricio Werdum rematch the man he steamrolled on his way to the title, Travis Browne (who has to have revenge on his mind). But before the heavyweights takeover, we’ll see a controversial match-up between 0-0 CM Punk and 2-0 Mickey Gall. Can CM Punk, at 37-years-old, with zero competitive combat sports experience, beat an MMA native who was hand picked by Dana and the gang? We’ll find out very soon. Rounding out the PPV card is Urijah Faber’s attempt to hold the bantamweight gate shut versus Jimmie Rivera and a women’s strawweight clash between Jessica Andrade and Joanne Calderwood which could propel either lady into title contention.
The four-fight preliminary card on Fox Sports 1 begins at 8:00PM ET. The FS1 featured prelim involves bad blood, as local favorite Jessica Eye takes on Brazilian slugger Bethe Correia. Also on the prelim card you can see Nik Lentz versus late-replacement Michael McBride in the lightweight division, and a wonderful example of all things middleweight, as Caio Magalhaes squares off with Brad Tavares. To open the prelim card, Drew Dober takes on Jason Gonzalez at 155lbs.
Of course, there’s UFC Fight Pass’ early prelims too, which begin at 7:30PM ET. There’s only one prelim tonight, and it’s the welterweight debut of Yancy Medeiros, who fights Sean Spencer.
Here’s how you can watch all of tonight’s action.
