Report: Robbie Lawler vs. Donald Cerrone targeted for UFC 205

Despite taking place in two months, the UFC has yet to officially announce any fights for UFC 205 in New York. Rumors continue to swirl about potential bouts, with the latest rumor involving a former UFC champion and a cowboy.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto tweeted on Thursday that the UFC is making progress on a fight between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone for the New York card.

This would be Lawler’s first fight after losing his championship to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201. If confirmed, the fight would take place just three and a half months after Lawler’s knockout loss.

Cerrone will be looking to continue his string of dominance in the welterweight division. His last fight was one of his most impressive to date, a 2nd round TKO of Rick Story that won him a Performance of the Night bonus.

Cowboy’s teased of an “epic” fight announcement for UFC 205 while on the Joe Rogan Experience. He also tweeted earlier this week in response to Robbie Lawler’s request for a fight.

UFC 205 takes place on November 12th at Madison Square Garden and will be the UFC’s first event in the state of New York since UFC 7 in Buffalo. A middleweight bout between Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy has also been rumored for the card.
