Shortly after Nate Diaz’s 5-round war with Conor McGregor, he addressed the assembled media. Interestingly enough, Diaz was smoking a vape pen while answering questions. When asked about it, Diaz said the pen had CBD oil.
“It’s CBD,” Diaz said about his vape pen. “It helps with healing process and inflammation and stuff like that. You want to get this for before or after the fight, in training, to make your life a better place.”
Diaz also posted about CBD oil before his fight on social media.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is an active cannabinoid in marijuana. It is said to have numerous medical applications, and it also doesn’t have the psychoactivity that THC is known for.
So yes, I guess you can say that Nate was technically smoking marijuana in front of the media immediately after his fight, but no, he wasn’t doing it to get high.
Marijuana is currently banned “in competition”, but as Eric Magraken points out on social media, that period ends after the fighter gets drug tested after the bout. So if Diaz has completed that, he could be home free.
Nate’s brother, Nick Diaz has been suspended multiple times for testing positive for marijuana metabolites in his system.
