UFN 92 video recap: Rodriguez outlasts Caceres, picks up split decision

TUF Latin America featherweight winner Yair Rodriguez has built a reputation as one of the most versatile stand-up fighters in the 145-pound division. He went on to put up a six-fight win streak against, Alex Caceres as the headliners for UFC Fight Night 92 in Salt Lake City.

What was the high point of the fight?

“El Pantera” has been known for the tremendous pace he puts up in his fights. He was able to do the same against Caceres, but the high point of the fight was his ability to keep the same tempo throughout the 25 minutes of action.

“Bruce Leroy” did have his moments, particularly when he would be able to close the distance and land his right hands, or when the fight was brought to the ground. But Rodriguez was able to impose his game plan by keeping some distance and land his kicks, and keep the action predominantly on the feet.

Where to do these two go from here?

Caceres will need to pick up another win to get his name back in consideration for bigger fights. Rodriguez, meanwhile, will likely get a fight against someone from the top ten within the UFC’s featherweight rankings.

As suggested by some right after the contest, a possible match-up against Jeremy Stephens could be a viable option for Rodriguez, next. Both men are known to always come in and fight and not play it safe, which could make for an exciting contest.

Watch it now, later or never?

If you are into some fast-paced, flashy stand-up exchanges for more than 20 minutes of action, this fight is a good one to watch.
