A few months ago, there was a loud buzz in the combat sports world about a potential boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. It was a match-up that drew the attention from some for the entertainment value, but was scoffed at by the greater majority.

Former two-time IBF world champion Robert Guerrero is part of the latter and is greatly displeased with the mere idea of it, despite the fact that it would be pitting two of the biggest draws in each sport together in one ring.

“It’ll be a big event,” Guerrero told Fight Hype. “You got all the MMA fighters, you got this, but it’s a joke to boxing. It’s a slap in the face, come on. You’re gonna take the best fighter in the world, and the best MMA fighter… well, was the best, because Nate Diaz put it on him.”

“You got a dominant fighter and this MMA guy. Out of nowhere, you’re gonna give this dude (McGregor) a fight. There’s guys out there like Thurman, all these guys, everybody’s been working their whole career to be in that position and you’re gonna go ‘OK, hey, you MMA fighter, come in here and fight me.’”

“And then you’re gonna break Marciano’s record with that? Come on, dude.”

Guerrero, though, is not counting on the fight pushing through, since he believes McGregor’s rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 would end in the same manner as it did in the first fight.

“I don’t think that’s gonna happen because Nate Diaz is gonna mop him up again.”
