The UFC handed out its post-fight bonuses following a very entertaining night of fights at UFC on FOX 20: Holm vs. Shevchenko in Chicago, Illinois. For a card that looked like it might have trouble keeping fan interest, it delivered exciting fights from start to finish. Here’s a rundown of the winners of the $50,000 bonus checks:
Fight of the Night: Jim Alers vs. Jason Knight
Performance of the Night: Eddie Wineland, Felice Herrig
Jim Alers and Jason Knight set the Fight Pass prelims on fire with a back-and-forth battle, which ended with Knight taking a split decision victory. Knight controlled the distance and pressed the action with Alers backing up, and at points, refusing to engage. Alers got some crisp striking off in the third, but it wasn’t enough to get the official nod.
Alers hasn’t had a victory since 2014, and has shown a general lack of improvement in his skillset. Knight looks to have worked on his ground work after his disappointing December loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri. It is the first performance bonus for both men.
Eddie Wineland picked up his 4th performance bonus between the UFC and WEC banners for his third round TKO stoppage of Frankie Saenz. He’s recorded FOTN honors for his win over Scott Jorgensen, as well as KOTN bonuses for wins over Will Campuzano and Ken Stone.
Strawweight, Felice Herrig picked up her first performance bonus by way of a R1 RNC submission victory over Hawaii’s Kailan Curran. Herrig, fighting in front of a hometown crowd, managed the quick finish after she easily transitioned from half guard to back mount, sinking in the choke and bringing her UFC record to 2-1.
