It’s not the strongest Fox card the UFC has ever put together, no it is not, but UFC on Fox 20 does have a few meaningful matchups to save it from irrelevance.
At the top of that list is the women’s bantamweight showcase between former champion Holly Holm and Valentina Shevchenko, whose last fight was a close defeat to the current champion, Amanda Nunes. Though it will likely be short on action, the meeting between the two is an important one for the division. With a win over Shevchenko, Holm would be right back in the title picture, and likewise for Valentina. We give our beloved Punch/Counterpunch segment a try for this one, with Pat arguing the case for Holly Holm, and Connor explaining the reasoning behind his prediction of a Shevchenko win.
Edson Barboza returns to the Octagon at this event as well, and it should be a showcase for the elite lightweight against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez.
Speaking of elite lightweights, we just had to talk about Landon Vannata, who very nearly shocked the world by beating Tony Ferguson on short notice at UFC Sioux Falls. Vannata couldn’t outpace Ferguson, but he came very close to knocking the top contender out. We examine where he went wrong, and where he goes from here.
