UFC 200 wrapped up with a major surprise. Miesha Tate entered the Octagon as a big favorite over Amanda Nunes, hoping to take her out quickly to set up rematches with Ronda Rousey or Holly Holm.
Instead, she was tapping out to Nunes in just over three minutes.
Nunes looked incredible from the start early, landing hard punches and shucking off Tate’s takedown attempts. She really started to unload on Tate about two minutes in, bloodying up her face and staggering her. Nunes kept it up, sending Tate staggering to the mat. She got up, but went back down with Nunes on her back.
Nunes sunk hooks and landed some hard ground punches, before slipping her arm under her neck and securing the rear naked choke. Tate tried to fight it off but it was a wrap – Tate tapped at the 3:16 mark of the first round.
Amanda Nunes is the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, and the first Brazilian woman to win a title in the UFC.
The women’s 135-pound division has been full of twists and turns over the last year. This is yet another.
