T.J. Dillashaw earned his revenge at UFC 200. The former champ was taking on Raphael Assuncao, a man that beat him in 2013 but hadn’t fought in a long time. This time around, Dillashaw won every round and took a stong unanimous decision win. All three judges had it 30-27.
The first round saw the two men battle on the feet, with Dillashaw getting the better of it. Not by a lot though. He was able to connect with the harder shots, but ate a few counters in return. His takedown attempts were shucked off.
The second round was closer. Dillashaw landed a huge counter right that bloodied Assuncao’s nose early in the round, but Assuncao was effective with leg kicks and counters of his own. They also scored one takedown each, though neither was able to control for long on the ground.
Not a lot happened in the final round. Assuncao seemed have Dillashaw’s movement figured out better and was able to connect more than the first two rounds, but got taken down once and ate a couple of hard Dillashaw shots in return.
Overall, it was Dillashaw’s fight.
Dillashaw was looking to rebound from losing his title to Dominick Cruz earlier this year. Assuncao brought a seven-fight winning streak into the bout, but hadn’t competed in almost two years due to injuries.
