Carlos Condit seriously considered retirement after a razor-thin loss to Robbie Lawler in their bout for the UFC welterweight title. It seems that a very good opponent has lured him back into the cage – Demian Maia.
According to a report from the Albuquerque Journal, the two men will face off in a featured bout at UFC 202 on August 20th in Las Vegas. The bout was also confirmed by the UFC.
Condit (30-9, 7-5 UFC) engaged in one of the most violent bouts in UFC history in January, and it really could have gone either way. Lawler retained his title though, and Condit wasn’t sure of his future. Well, now we know that he’s going to continue on.
Maia (23-6, 17-6 UFC) has been on a tear of late, winning five straight bouts against increasingly strong competition. His most recent victory came via submission over Matt Brown in May. Maia had wanted a title shot or someone ranked above him, and he’s getting one of those things here.
UFC 202 will be headlined by a rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at welterweight. Wow, is this card stacked all of a sudden.
