Urijah Faber is putting to rest any talk of retirement following his loss to Dominick Cruz at UFC 199. The 37 year old, who has amassed a 33-9 record in 13 years of professional fighting, wants to continue his fighting career after his most recent failed title shot.
“No, I’m not gonna retire. I feel like [at age] 37 [was] one of the best training camps I’ve had, period. It was amazing,” Faber told MMAFighting.com.
Faber doesn’t plan on rushing back to the Octagon, electing to “chill for a bit” before looking for a fight that piques his interest. Although many would point to a grudge match between him and former teammate TJ Dillashaw, Faber says that his interest in the fight has diminished.
“I’m not necessarily itching for that fight. It’s just a bad feeling altogether when I think about that. It makes me more sad than anything.”
While Faber doesn’t have an opponent in mind, he has a specific location that peeks his interest.
“…I like to try and find stuff that’s interesting. Fighting in Sacramento in a new arena, that excites me.”
The Golden 1 Center is the newest arena in Sacramento with construction finishing in the Fall. The arena will likely replace the Sleep Train arena for the go-to place for UFC events in Sacramento.
Urijah Faber is currently ranked #2 in the UFC Bantamweight division. Champion Dominick Cruz has not been scheduled for a fight. #1 ranked TJ Dillashaw and #3 ranked Raphael Assuncao are scheduled to fight on July 9th at UFC 200.
