Dana White: Joanne Calderwood will get bonus, new UFC deal

Last Saturday, Joanne Calderwood experienced the highs and lows of being a UFC fighter. The Scottish striker picked up a huge win over former strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau in the first women’s flyweight fight in UFC history. But since she’s on a TUF contract, she wasn’t exactly making a lot of money,  and she was hoping to get a performance bonus.

When that didn’t come, she lamented that she was “broke as hell” and would have to get a job to save up to come back to Tri-Star in Montreal for another camp.

Well, Dana White is apparently coming to the rescue. He responded to Jojo’s statements on the UFC Unfiltered podcast today, stating that they’re going to make sure Calderwood is taken care of after her excellent fight:

“She will be bonused for that fight. There were so many good fights that night, people were going crazy, ‘how did she not get (a bonus),’ and it’s true. Me and Lorenzo were saying, how the hell did that skip us, she should have got a bonus.

“In that 115-pound division, you don’t see finishes, the way she finished Valerie. And Valerie went five rounds with Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Joanna didn’t do that to her. We’re going to take care of her, and we’re going to sign her to a new deal.”

That’s a very good thing for Calderwood, who set herself up for a big fight with the win.
