Video: Brock Lesnar earns BJJ blue belt ahead of UFC 200

WWE megastar Brock Lesnar, who recently announced his return to the UFC octagon, looks to be taking his mixed martial arts training very seriously.

The former UFC heavyweight champion was just promoted to the rank of blue belt by Rodrigo ‘Comprido’ Medeiros.

Ana Hissa of Brazil’s SporTV released footage yesterday of a buoyant Lesnar, moments after receiving his new ranking.

In the short clip Lesnar expressed his thanks for, “finally reaching” his goal of becoming a BJJ blue belt. The blue belt is the second adult rank – after white belt – in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Rodrigo Medeiros, who promoted Lesnar, is a black belt under Romero ‘Jacare’ Cavalcanti. ‘Comprido’ is a multi-time World, Pan American, and Brazilian National champion. He has also trained former UFC heavyweights Pat Barry and Chris Tuchscherer.

It’s unlikely that this news will do much to worry Lesnar’s UFC 200 opponent Mark Hunt though.

When he spoke with Submission Radio back in 2014 (on the eve of his bout with Fabricio Werdum), the Super Samoan had the following to say:

“Well everyone’s a world class ground fighter until they get a punch to the face. So that’s how I deal with all these ground fighters, like everyone else. I hit ‘em in the head and there goes your f***ing black belt.”

We’ll see if the same goes for Lesnar’s blue belt when the two heavyweights collide on July 9th.
