As you may have gathered, Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber do not like each other very much. This rivalry will be renewed this Saturday night in Inglewood, California, as Cruz seeks to win the trilogy series and retain his UFC bantamweight title. For Faber, he wants to avoid becoming the first ever UFC fighter to go 0-4 in title fights.
Faber defended his featherweight title by submitting Cruz in 2007, which remains Dominick’s only loss to date. With Cruz reigning supreme at bantamweight, he bested Faber in their 2011 rematch. Five years later, and Cruz has improbably overcome serious knee injuries to recapture his 135 lbs title, while Faber is still one of the top contenders in the division. They will meet for (presumably) a final time in the UFC 199 co-main, and today was the first of their 3 staredowns for the week.
