Renan Barao is ready to do whatever it takes in order to grab his title shot at the featherweight division. Even though he’s still about to make his return to the division for the first time in 9 years, the former bantamweight champion told Combate he wouldn’t be personally against a fight with his teammate Jose Aldo, although he would have to talk to his team about it.

“Future will tell. I’ll speak with my team, because I’m not the only one who decides that,” Barao said. “I would have to talk to everyone, but that’s not something I’m thinking about now.

For Barao, the best thing about the division switch will be his weight cut, as he would sacrifice too much to reach 135 pounds in the past.

“That’ll be a great help,” Barao said. “I would drain myself too much and I would even lose my speed and my strength. I wasn’t getting my weight back properly. This time my recovery will be much better.”

Renan Barao is scheduled to take on Jeremy Stephens in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 88, on May 29, in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined by bantamweights Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt.
