On May 14th, Brazil will host its first UFC event of 2016, and it’s the best one the UFC has ever put together. Whatever you think about the declines of Messrs Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, this card is ridiculously good from top to bottom. Fabricio Werdum will defend his heavyweight belt against Stipe Miocic in front of 40,000+ fans at the Arena da Baixada soccer stadium. The co-main event is a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Jacare Souza, in a fight that is the perfect example of why some non-main events should be 5 rounds. Also on the main card is Anderson Silva against Uriah Hall, Cris Cyborg’s long-awaited UFC debut against Leslie Smith (at 140 lbs), and Beastin’ 25/8 vs. Shogun Rua.
The preliminary card is stacked. Demian Maia vs. Matt Brown could headline most UFC Fight Nights and here it is on the prelims. Rob Font will fight John Lineker in my personal favorite matchup on the entire card. Patrick Cummins will face Lil’ Nog in the feature bout of the Fight Pass portion of the event.
