Tonight’s boxing PPV attaction saw Amir Khan coming up in weight to take on one of the sport’s biggest draws, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. It was widely thought to be a battle between Khan’s speed and Canelo’s power, and that’s exactly how it played out.
The official judge’s scorecards show that one judge actually had Khan ahead after five rounds:
Of course, the scorecards don’t really matter. Alvarez knocked Khan out cold with a thunderous shot in the sixth round. But it’s interesting to see that Khan started so well. I’m not sure what Glenn Trowbridge was watching though – there’s no way Alvarez won the first round.
It seemed pretty clear that Khan won the first and second, the third was a toss-up, and Alvarez turned things around in the fourth. He took the fourth and fifth with body work before the KO.
Now we’ll have to see if we get the much-anticipated Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin bout that was hyped so heavily after Canelo’s win.
