Tonight is Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan in a Middleweight world title fight. It’s power vs. speed as the smaller but faster Khan moves up in weight to challenge the heavy hitting champion Canelo. The Middleweight title, and just maybe a showdown with Gennady Golovkin await the winner. Get round by round coverage here at Bloody Elbow all night.
Round 4: Khan continues to use his hand speed well, but Canelo’s defense is finding its groove, as he is starting to avoid and time a lot of Khan’s offense. He’s also starting to get his body shot game going, which is one of his best weapons. Close round here, but I like Canelo’s body shots for the advantage. 10-9 Canelo
Round 5: Both men connect at times in another close round, but as with the last round, it seems Canelo’s body shots are making the difference. Khan still has the hand speed, but his movement is slowing down, allowing Canelo to trap him at times and connect, particularly to the body. It seems Khan gets hurt by one of those shots late, but it’s unclear. 10-9 Canelo
Round 6: Early in the round, Canelo lands the best combo of the fight with a right to the body, left hook. He’s starting to find Khan consistently, and then, just like that, he lands the brutally heavy shot and Amir Khan is down and OUT.
