Titan FC has recently made changes in the way they run the promotion in order to stand out from the competition. The new chapter in the MMA promotion’s story will be a nod to Strikeforce.

Titan FC will now operate and hold events in South Florida. The new format is similar to how Strikeforce held their big shows in California but put on smaller cards in other states to find local talent.

The promotion’s next event, Titan FC 38, takes place this Saturday in Miami. The card is headlined by former WSOF champion Steve Carl and Belal Muhammad, who will be fighting for the vacant Welterweight Championship.

Florida is a hotbed of MMA talent with MMA super camps like American Top Team and Blackzilians producing tons of local talent. For Carl, who trains out of ATT, the new change in direction allows him to fight close to home.

“I don’t mind going overseas and fighting in someone else’s backyard, but yeah down here I’m already acclimated to the weather, so I’m good to go.”

The former WSOF Welterweight Champion admitted that his main reason for transitioning over to Titan FC was the platform that they provided for fighters.

“The big thing was their platform with UFC Fight Pass and everything that comes with that. I just wanted that exposure and I think it’s the perfect platform for the next step in my career.”

His opponent Belal Muhammad isn’t too worried about Carl’s hometown advantage. He plans on bringing his own contingent of fans from his hometown of Chicago to make the flight down south.

“I have a big following with me, will probably have atl east 100 people fly down to watch me, I have a really support system,” Muhammad says.

Muhammad also says that the change to a single home base will create a better atmosphere for local fighters and will result in bigger, more knowledgeable crowds. .

“It gives them more of a crowd that will be into a certain fighter and bring more fans in from the local area. I don’t like the small towns when they go to Alabama or stuff like that.”

Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson says that the change will take advantage of all the local talent that Florida has to offer, while also giving the promotion time to scout fighters across the country through a challengers-like series.

He would like to have their first “challengers” card take place in New York. The event would likely feature New York prospects while being headlined by Titan Featherweight Champion Andre Harrison.

“We’ll still do like a challengers series type card where we do three smaller cards around the county. It will be invitation only, and we’ll be looking for the brightest young stars. It’s very similar to how Strikeforce found guys like Daniel Cormier and Tyron Woodley.”

Titan FC 38 airs live on UFC Fight Pass this Satruday The fight card kicks off at 7pm EST.
