Ever the honest man, Fabio Maldonado is excited and honored to have the chance to take on MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko. As he told Ag Fight, the brawler will do everything in his power to defeat Fedor, even going as far taking DHEA, which he revealed he will take, since there will be no testing for the bout.
“It’s me against him. Everybody understands these things, right? I’m not trying to make myself look like a victim here. Everybody understands and knows what I will take and what I won’t take. What I can say is that I don’t take those things, but for example, when I was in my final UFC stretch and they had random tests, I was using DHEA, because the doctor told me it’s good for men past 32, it’s good for your skin and your hormones. It wasn’t even a PED. I’m not taking any yet, but I believe I’ll start next week.”
DHEA is a banned substance under WADA and USADA rules, both in- and out-of-competition. While in the UFC, USADA only administered one test to Maldonado, which was during the 4th quarter (October-December) of 2015. The UFC released him in December.
Fabio Maldonado (22-9) returns to MMA after a unanimous decision loss to Corey Anderson last November. Before that, he returned to pro boxing, where he scored two knockout wins. He is now set to fight Fedor Emelianenko at Fight Nights, in St. Petersburg, Russia, in a heavyweight match, on June 17.
