If I Did It: Conor vs the UFC 2, Beyonce vs Rachel Ray, Prince tribute

Alexei Auld is back with a brand new book available 7 Secret Sources of Inspiration: A Snappy Guide for Creative Procrastinators to grill Eugene S. Robinson and myself with some PR stumpers from the world of combat sports.

Today’s puzzlers include:

  • You’re the UFC. It’s been fifteen hours and seven days, since you took Conor McGregor away from UFC 200. Since he’s been gone you can do whatever you want. You can match up whomever you choose. But nothing, I said nothing can take away these blues. With UFC 200 approaching, everybody needs a thrill, and you’ve got a space to fill. So explain your internal PR process as if I was your girlfriend.
  • You’re Conor McGregor. Guess we should’ve known by the way you tweeted your retirement sideways, that it wouldn’t last. Dana said you’re the kind of person, that wanted to promote the fight once, love ‘em, and leave ‘em fast. Believe it or not, I’m starting to worry. Wondering if you have enough class. It’s on a July Saturday night, but does that make your PR stunts all right? Because, I say “Baby, have you got enough gas?”
  • You’re Becky with the good hair. Last weekend, Beyonce called you out in “Lemonade”. That’s right, we’re pleased to meet you. But Bey still won’t tell us your name. Don’t you believe in mystery? And don’t you want to play her game?
  • CURVEBALL (KEEPING IT UNDER WRAPS)
  • TEACHABLE MOMENT: You’re Prince. After your death, your friends disclosed your private philanthropic efforts ranging from being a silent partner in coding for urban kids, solar panels in the hood, to others projects for not only children of color, but poor white kids, too. In fact, your public activity actually had a empowering agenda. In this age of PR philanthropy which is undermined by celebrity controversy, what can we learn about sacrificing good press for the greater good?
