Demetrious Johnson doesn’t always get the respect he deserves. The flyweight champion doesn’t get a lot of quick finishes, and some fans don’t seem to appreciate all the things that DJ brings into the octagon. Well, tonight he got that quick finish. And hopefully he earned some more respect, because his work tonight was pure artistry.
Opponent Henry Cejudo, an Olympic wrestling gold medalist, actually got an early takedown on Mighty Mouse. But as soon as DJ got up, it was the beginning of the end for Cejudo. Johnson clinched up and landed knees to the chin, the body, the ribs, and all sorts of other places, often at crazy angles. It seemed that Cejudo was hurt fairly quickly, but he fired back in the clinch and kept going.
Until a knee landed directly in the liver.
Once that shot landed, Cejudo released and staggered backwards. Johnson charged at him, caught him with a punch, then unloaded with more knees to the body. Cejudo went down in obvious pain, and referee John McCarthy jumped in at stopped in. In just two minutes and forty-nine seconds, Mighty Mouse defended his title once again.
