Jon Jones and Demetrious Johnson are fighting this weekend! The consensus numbers one and two fighters in the world (who deserves the number one spot is up for debate) step into the cage. For Jones, it will be a bit of a tuneup, but I’m certainly happy to have him back in the Octagon where he belongs. For Johnson, it will be one of the most intriguing title fights of his career, and potentially the best matchup possible in the flyweight division, as Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo tries to become the second flyweight champion in UFC history.
And yet… no one seems to care. We’re all talking about Conor McGregor’s contract disputes with the UFC, which is incredibly interesting and all, but . . . remember fighting, guys? Remember MMA? Narratives are essential, but there are stories to be found within the careers of Jon Jones and Demetrious Johnson is you’ll just give them a chance!
