Khabib Nurmagomedov hasn’t competed since a 2014 win over Rafael dos Anjos, who would eventually win the UFC lightweight while the Dagestani was out due to injury. The 22-0 lightweight will be returning this weekend, and although he isn’t facing the top ranked Tony Ferguson anymore, he believes a win over late replacement in Darrell Horcher should still earn him a title shot.
“I beat your current lightweight champion,” Khabib told the assembled media. “I hope these guys give me a title shot. I have been undefeated all my life.”
“Eddie Alvarez lose a lot of times, Cowboy lose, Tony Ferguson lose,” he continued. “UFC needs somebody different, somebody new, on a new level, new generation. I hope the UFC gives me a title shot after this, because a lot of people agree with me. A lot of fans agree with me.”
“I am undefeated. All these bums lose a lot of times. Nate Diaz lose 10 times. McGregor lose. Ferguson, Cowboy, RDA, everybody lose. I am undefeated and UFC has to give me this title shot.”
Nurmagomedov is 6-0 in his time with the UFC, and despite being away for two years, is still ranked as the #2 lightweight in the promotion.
