The longstanding feud between Floridian street fighters Kimbo Slice and Dhafir Harris (AKA “Dada 5000”) would finally be settled inside an MMA cage, as the two heavyweights collided in tonight’s Bellator 149: Shamrock vs. Gracie III co-main event.
Kimbo missed on a left hook in the opening seconds. Dada 5000 went full speed ahead (by his standards) charging at Kimbo, who countered by taking him down. As Dada tried to wriggle free, Kimbo obtained full mount less than a minute into the round. Dada tried to stall any offense from Kimbo by holding down his head and hanging on for dear life. Dada got back to his feet as Kimbo momentarily flopped to his back. They scrambled into a clinch. Slice threw a knee to the body. McCarthy separated them for inactivity. Dada moved forward and threw and connected on some good shots before they returned to the clinch. They traded hard strikes to end the 1st round. Yes, this actually went into a 2nd round.
John McCarthy actually warned Dada for not standing in the right place to start the round. Kimbo whiffed on a leaping left hook. Awful, wild swinging ensued. Neither man was seriously hurt even though some punches were scoring. Kimbo took Dada down against the fence and peppered Dada’s face with some ground-and-pound before letting him back to his feet. A falldown-style takedown by Slice occurred seconds later, as McCarthy warned Dada for grabbing Kimbo’s shorts. McCarthy stood them back up in incredibly quick fashion. Dada looked exhausted. Kimbo already was exhausted. Slice went on the assault and fired off some huge shots. Dada countered with a knee in the clinch. Kimbo dropped to his knees for … some reason. I think he contemplated an in-cage nap. Dada 5000 had a headlock and Kimbo nudged his way into top position. Dada 5000 was mounted and McCarthy stood them up. I am not making this up. Dada rocked Kimbo with punches after the restart. I think. This actually made it to round 3.
It was bombs away for the 3rd round. The gas tanks were on empty but the punches kept coming. Eventually Dada 5000 stopped throwing, Kimbo bashed Dada with a series of murderous punches from the fiery pits of hell, but Dada remained upright somehow. He maintained his balance even though he was out on his feet. Kimbo kept slamming away his snail-quick fists at a completely spent Dada until Dada pulled off the Ric Flair Flop and was down for the count. John McCarthy stopped the fight. Dada 5000 remained down even after the official result was announced.
Official result: Kimbo Slice (6-2) def. Dada 5000 (2-1) via TKO (punches) at 1:32 of round 3
