UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier defends his championship on April 27th at UFC 197 against former champion Jon Jones.
The two fighers will face off for a second time in just over a year. Jones won the first fight by unanimous decision at UFC 182 in January of last year. Since the loss, Cormier has won two straight fight, capturing the vacant light heavyweight championship (after Jones was stripped in April) with a win over Anthony Johnson, and defending the belt against Alexander Gustafsson.
Glory Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven visited Cormier’s gym, American Kickboxing Academy, to train with the UFC champion. Verhoeven is visiting different cities and MMA gyms around the West Coast to find the right MMA gym to train at full time.
Cormier talked with Bloody Elbow’s Michael Hutchinson about training with Verhoeven, why the Glory Champion would be a big asset to Team AKA, as well as his much anticipated rematch with Jon Jones.
