If you were concerned that Jon Jones’ latest driving issues would jeopardize his recently announced UFC 197 main event title fight vs. Daniel Cormier, it looks like he won’t face charges of violating the conditions of his probation. Kayla Anderson, spokesperson for the Bernalillo County district attorney’s office, told MMA Junkie that Jones’ citations for driving without a license, registration, and proof of insurance won’t result in a probation violation.
Jones, whose hit-and-run collision cost him his UFC light heavyweight belt last year, was sentenced to 18 months probation after making a plea deal with prosecutors. In past run-ins with the law, Jones has been arrested for DUI, as well as driving under a suspended license. The conditional discharge didn’t specifically state that driving without a license or insurance, although as Kayla Anderson noted in her statement, “all defendants being supervised on probation are required generally to not violate any laws.”
Despite the latest traffic citations, Jones’ rep told MMA Junkie that he is “fully licensed and insured,” and his manager Malki Kawa told MMA Hour that the situation is “not a big deal.”
The former champ is scheduled to appear in a New Mexico court room on Wednesday, and he tweeted this out earlier today.
I’m interested to see how many “journalists” show up to the court room on Wednesday to report this career changing masterpiece.
