Carlos Condit: ‘Immediate rematch’ against Lawler is the only fight ‘I can get interested in’

The epic battle between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit at UFC 195 had all the makings of a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate. After a brutal and competitive five-round championship war, Lawler emerged victorious in a razor-thin split decision and Condit had to leave the MGM Grand Garden Arena empty handed.

Following the bout, Condit, a veteran of over 40 professional fights, contemplated retirement on several occasions, mainly because of health concerns. On last Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour he revealed, that a rematch against Lawler would be the only fight that could draw him back to the cage right now.

“An immediate rematch with Lawler is about the only fight that raises my pulse,” Condit said. “That I can get interested in. Those other fights are a little bit more, the rematch with Robbie would be, boom, we’d have a bout agreement in the box real quick and we could get that done.” (Transcription via MMA Fighting)

Condit explained that he is still unsure whether or not he will continue fighting, since he wants to spend more time with his family and the time-consuming schedule of being a professional fighter doesn’t allow him to look after his them as much as he’d wanted to.

“I still love what I do, I still have a lot of fight left in me,” Condit said. “From a looking long-term, I have to do what is right for my health, for my family, things have been difficult the last couple years, my wife has had some health problems that are fairly major, and, you know, these fights are super stressful. Like I said, I absolutely love what I do. I gotta do what’s right for my family. I’m still weighing my options right now.”
