WSOF 27 results and video: Firmino, Gamzatov pick up wins

World Series of Fighting returned to Phoenix last night for their 27th numbered card, and while there were only seven fights on the docket, most of them delivered. Four of the seven didn’t go the full 15 minutes, and the two finishes on the main card were pretty. Without further ado, here’s how it all went down.

Luiz Firmino defeated Caros Fodor by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

The main event of the evening was a grinding affair. Late replacement Firmino used a solid grappling game to shut down Fodor on the feet, and did enough on top to stifle his submission game as well. After a tough first round, he controlled the fight over the final two stanzas to pull out a unanimous decision victory. Here’s the one gif-worthy thing from the fight.

Shamil Gamzatov defeated Teddy Holder by TKO, 2:32 of round 1

The undefeated Dagestani made his WSOF debut in style, stopping Holder with strikes halfway through the first round. After Holder took a punch in the eye, both fighters looked to the ref for guidance. He told them to fight on though, and Gamzatov cracked Holder with another right that led to the end of the fight. Jaleel Willis defeated Chauncey Foxworth by unamimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

This was a bloody fight. Willis controlled the first, taking the fight to the mat and almost ending it with a rear naked choke. Alas, Foxworth was saved by the bell. It was more of the same in the second, but Foxworth opened a cut on Willis with an elbow near the end of the round. Willis controlled the third as well, but the amount of blood that was coming out of the cut covered both men in it and led the referee to have it checked with the doctor twice. Despite that though, Willis persevered and got the dominant win.

Bryce Mitchell defeated Jorge Medina by submission (rear naked choke), 1:02 of round 1

In just over a minute, Mitchell kept his record on the undefeated side with a slick submission finish. After a fun scramble early, Mitchell got to the back and worked for the choke. Medina tried to fight him off, but it was no use and he tapped out at the 62 second mark. Oh, and his nickname is Thug Nasty.
