Report: Jon Jones’ brother, NFL star Chandler Jones, was hospitalized for pill overdose

New England Patriots standout defensive end Chandler Jones, younger brother of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, was hospitalized on Sunday after an undisclosed “medical emergency.” The Boston Herald reported that “Jones arrived at the police station at 7:42 a.m. with a medical emergency and was evaluated by fire and EMS officials before being transported to Norwood Hospital just after 8 a.m.” Additionally, “the police chief confirmed information was deleted from dispatch records before they were released to the Herald.”

However, according to Boston sports radio’s Dennis and Callahan Show (WEEI), they know what caused Jones’ brief hospital stay (he was released hours after. On Tuesday night, the show’s producer tweeted out a report saying that Jones had suffered a pill overdose on Saturday before his hospitalization on Sunday.

There are several things worth pointing out within the context of this tweet. No specification of what type of pills were allegedly ingested by Jones, only Pro Football Talk (who cited the tweet) has run with the story even as a report, and initially, the report said that Jones had OD’d at the house of superstar tight-end Rob Gronkowski. That tweet was deleted, and the reiteration left out where it allegedly happened. Whatever the case, Chandler’s medical emergency didn’t requite an extended stay at Norwood Hospital.

This unconfirmed, and I do stress unconfirmed, report comes coincidentally almost a year to the day after Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine metabolites in an out-of-competition drug test taken before UFC 182. “Bones” entered rehab and checked out after one day.

Meanwhile, Chandler, who ranked 5th in the NFL with 12.5 quarterback sacks this season, was present at Patriots practice both yesterday and today, as he and the defending Super Bowl champions gear up for a home divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday night.
