Despite a big win over Miguel Cotto, Saul Alvarez is still seen as a large underdog when it comes to a matchup with Gennady Golovkin. At least by bookmakers. Betting site Bovada is now offering a line on the proposed middleweight matchup between them, and here’s the line they came up with:
Golovkin -350
Alvarez +265
Golovkin (34-0, 31 KO), a 33-year-old native of Kazakhstan, and holds a gaggle of 160-pound belts. He fought three times in 2015, stopping Martin Murray, Willie Monroe Jr, and finally David Lemieux by TKO. The bout with Lemieux was his first as the A side of a PPV.
Alvarez (46-1, 32 KO) picked up a decision win over Cotto in the second-biggest boxing event of 2015. Before that, he stopped James Kirkland in a stadium show in Houston in May. He holds three versions of the middleweight title.
The two men will fight other opponents first, according to the WBC, then will square off late in 2016.
