Former UFC welterweight contender and Ultimate Fighter 1 alumni Josh Koscheck is out of his Bellator debut on January 29 due to an undisclosed injury. MMA Fighting confirmed the news on Wednesday. Koscheck was scheduled to face Matt Secor in the main event of Bellator MMA 148 in his hometown of Fresno, California.
Koscheck made his way into the UFC via the groundbreaking first TUF season, the reality format that helped paving the way for the organization’s ongoing success. During his ten-year run with the promotion, the 38-year old former NCAA Division 1 wrestling champion faced some of the 170-pound division’s finest and even challenged then-champion Georges St-Pierre for the title in 2010, but came up short in a decision. After losing five fights in a row, Koscheck signed with Bellator MMA in June 2015 and was scheduled to make his debut in January.
The new headliner for Bellator 148 is a welterweight matchup between British striker Paul Daley and Andrew Uhrich, which served as the original co-main event. Matt Secor won’t be on the card at all and will fight on a later date.
