Stipe Miocic: ‘It doesn’t matter’ whether I fight Werdum or Velasquez for the UFC title

Stipe Miocic likely earned himself a heavyweight title shot last Saturday with his quick knockout win against Andrei Arlovski in the co-main event of UFC 195.

After he stopped the Belarusian former champ at only 54 seconds into the first round, he immediately turned to UFC president Dana White and screamed for his title opportunity. The win must have been a relief for Miocic, who obviously had some tough times in his personal life during camp.

“I’ve had a rough couple of weeks. It’s great to have something good come out of all of this. I’ve got a lot going on”, Miocic said during the post-fight show on Fox Sports 1, and recalled the moment he got into Dana White’s face. “I said: ‘I want my shot!’ I was jacked. I’m here to win. I think I did enough for the shot.” (Transcription via Fighters Only)

Before Miocic gets his opportunity to fight for the title, current champion Fabricio Werdum will defend the gold in a rematch against Cain Velasquez at UFC 196 on February 6.

Miocic couldn’t care less about who wins the fight.

“It doesn’t matter. I want the shot and I know I can do it. I’m taking that belt back to Cleveland,” he said. There is no official word from the UFC yet, if or when Miocic will challenge for the title.
