Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor are both technically superb fighters. Aldo has ruled the featherweight division for years, making as much use of the feather-light foot as he has the iron fist. Meanwhile McGregor’s technique, along with his tremendous power, has carried him to the top of one of the deepest divisions in all of Mixed Martial Arts.
But physical attributes comprise only one half of this fight, and perhaps less than half of what makes it such an intriguing matchup. It is the mental battle, the war of wills that has the world so interested. And in this realm too, Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor are more than a little superhuman–or perhaps inhuman.
They don’t feel fear like other fighters. They don’t doubt themselves like other fighters. They don’t respond to pain the way a normal human being might, because they aren’t normal human beings.
