Later this evening, 25-year-old Cody Pfister will look to derail the Sage Northcutt hype train. Pfister will take on Northcutt for UFC Fight Night: VanZant vs. Namajunas, and will look to pick up his first win under the UFC banner.
Northcutt, 19, has only one fight in MMA’s premiere promotion but is already being touted as the next mega-star by fans and fighters. “This kid could be Georges St-Pierre times ten,” UFC fighter turned commentator Kenny Florian said in October.
The life-long martial artist blitzed Francisco Trevino in the first round at UFC 192, but Pfister doesn’t believe Northcutt has been tested. In fact, the Nick’s Fight Club student believes his fellow Texan is just another product of the UFC hype-machine.
“I just think it’s a lot of overhype, you know, but, it’s cool,” Pfister said. “It works, you know, he’s young. I guess he’s Dana’s new boy, you know. He’s his lapdog for the moment but I’m sure he’ll kick him to the curb after that. You know, after I go put him down they’re gonna throw him to the s**t like they do everybody else.”
Cody Pfister vs. Sage Northcutt will feature on the main card of UFC Fight Night 80 which kicks off at 10 PM ET/ 7 PM PT.
