Ronda Rousey hasn’t said much publicly since her vicious knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia. The 2nd round head kick defeat crumbled Rousey’s aura of invincibility and left her defeated for the first time in her MMA career. Dana White says that an immediate rematch will happen some time in 2016, but if Rousey’s recent interview with ESPN The Magazine is anything to go by, it may be awhile before she’s ready to get back into the Octagon.

Rousey is on the cover of ESPN’s “Ideas of the Year” issue, which will be on shelves this Friday, and People Magazine’s sneak peek of her one-on-one with Ramona Shelburne includes a snippet about the injuries she suffered in the Holm fight.

“It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple,” Rousey said. “Let alone take an impact.”

That’s certainly not a positive sign for the idea of Holm vs. Rousey II happening at UFC 200 in July 2016. Rousey’s medical suspension included 45 days without contact, although her potential for a 180 day suspension was pending results of a head scan. Dana White had denied initial reports that Rousey had suffered a broken jaw in the fight.

While Rousey is “really f–king sad” over losing her UFC title in devastating fashion, she is optimistic that she can get back on the right track and return to her role as the top fighter in women’s MMA.

“Maybe I can’t do it all before my prime, before my body is done,” she says. “But f— it, maybe I can.”

Meanwhile, Holm received a hero’s welcome upon her return to Albuquerque, as a large crowd gathered to see the new champion in her “Holm-coming”.
