With Holly Holm now carrying the crown for the women’s bantamweight division, potential fights between top ranked contenders could suddenly take on a lot more meaning. That may be part of the thought process for Bethe Correia, as she’s angling hard for a bout against the division’s no. 2 ranked fighter Miesha Tate who, herself has a better shot than ever for increased divisional relevance now that Rousey is no longer sitting on the throne.

Correa spoke to MMAFighting about the prospect of fighting Tate and took dead aim at Tate’s recent fallout with UFC brass over losing out on a 3rd shot at the belt.

“I woke up and there’s a tweet from Miesha Tate saying I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree and I thought to myself, Miesha is probably too bored, has nothing to do in her personal life and career, and she’s trying to throw her frustration into someone else. Ever since she was sidelined by the UFC and realized she won’t be fighting for the tile anytime soon, she lost her mind.”

Corriea also took Tate to task over her comments about possibly retiring, going so far as to say that she would make her “wish come true.”

“She said she’s so pissed off she’s willing to retire. Honestly, it was one of the most ridiculous things someone ever did in the UFC to bitch about a business decision by the promotion. Someone that really wants to make a career in MMA and fight for a title would never talk about retirement. You have to be hungry no matter what.”

“The UFC is keeping her in the sidelines. If they want me to go in there and retire Miesha, I will do my best to show the world this rookie has some knockout power and retire her. I will make your wish come true, Miesha. I can do this for you.”

All that’s left at this point is for the UFC to get the fight booked.
