On January 2nd, Carlos Condit will challenge welterweight champion Robbie Lawler in a much anticipated main-event fight at UFC 195. And according to him, it could very well be his last big opportunity to win a UFC title.
“I probably don’t have too much longer,” Condit told MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani. “This is my shot.”
While he also stated that he has “no clue” when he will hang up the gloves, at 31-years-old, retirement may indeed not be too far away for the Natural Born Killer. Condit already fought a ton of battles in his 13-year career, but in 38 fights, the former WEC champion never managed to win the big one, although he came close a couple of times and won the interim UFC strap.
In 2012, he beat Nick Diaz for the interim UFC title, but ultimately lost the unification bout against returning Georges St-Pierre. A year later, Condit came up short in a title eliminator versus Johny Hendricks, and this fight against Lawler is really is his big chance to finally win the UFC title.
Condit and Lawler were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia, but the fight was moved after Lawler suffered a thumb injury. Both men will now square off on January 2nd at UFC 195 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
