The fighter purses for Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez have been released publicly. Even though Canelo is pegged to be the next top draw in boxing, he’ll only receive 25% of the $20 million split between him and his foe after Saturday night. However, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, there’s more to it for both men, particularly for Alvarez.

“Upside” in this case means PPV points, but the financial specifics are unknown. The TV deal for Canelo is with TV Azteca, one of Mexico’s largest multimedia companies. Alvarez has a three-fight deal with Azteca to air his fights, regardless of whether or not they’re on PPV in the US. His last fight with James Kirkland averaged 19 million viewers in Mexico, and it’ll surely be much higher than that for his showdown against Cotto. It should also be noted that Canelo also received a percentage of the gate receipts for the Kirkland fight, which pulled in over 30,000 fans at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

The $15 million paycheck is Cotto’s largest of his career, with his previous high coming in at $8 million in a 2012 loss to Floyd Mayweather. In his last PPV, Cotto had $7 million guaranteed for his TKO win over Sergio Martinez in 2014.
