Jose Aldo believes we have seen the last of Ronda Rousey, at least in the Octagon. As he spoke to the media during a press conference at his gym in Rio de Janeiro, the UFC featherweight champion thinks there’s a slim chance of Ronda reclaiming her title. Aldo says it would be best if she just focused on doing films from now on.
“I think it will be hard for her to get her belt back. I don’t even think she will fight again,” Combate reported. “Given the path her career has taken, making money by doing movies and stuff like that, I would lean towards that. Why would I ruin my face by being punched in the face? That’s crazy.”
Aldo went on to emphasize Rousey’s legacy on women’s MMA and compared her loss to Gina Carano’s to Cris Cyborg.
“If I were her I wouldn’t come back. I see her story kind of like Gina Carano’s. She was a great fighter, but when she lost to Cris Cyborg, she moved on to movies. And she’s doing better there than she was when fighting. She doesn’t cut weight or get punched in the face. I think Ronda leaves a great legacy. She changed women’s MMA. She made something not even Dana White thought that could ever happen. That’s her legacy. She did a lot for women’s MMA.”
As for Rousey’s brutal knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, Aldo can’t help but say he saw it coming.
“It did not surprise me. Holly Holm is a multiple time boxing champion and she enacted her game plan standing up. Not only me, but everyone knew that Holm would win if the fight remained standing.”
Jose Aldo is scheduled to fight interim featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, at UFC 194, on December 12, in Las Vegas.
