That’s the thing with gambling, someone is always the loser. In the case of Ronda Rousey’s UFC 193 loss to Holly Holm, not only did Ronda Rousey take the first beating of her MMA career, the MGM sportsbook took their heaviest ever loss on a UFC event. Holm’s massive upset win set MGM back six figures according to a report by ESPN.

Other bookies got hosed too, just not quite as badly, with Westgate Superbook approaching six figures at one point, until some late money came in on Rousey.

“At one point, we were approaching six digits on our loss,” SuperBook assistant manager Ed Salmons said. “We had some late money on the favorite, which essentially made us a small loser on that fight. But with what we could have lost at one point, it felt like a big winner.”

As already reported, Holm’s manager claims he made “into six figures” betting on his fighter to win. And there’s a photo going around of one lucky punter who put 20k on Holm to win for a payoff of $240,000.

Of course, that’s exactly the kind of advertising that bookies love. That next big winner could be you!
