Ronda Rousey took shots at Floyd Mayweather for his domestic violence history on numerous occasions, but she recently came under criticism with various incidents relating to her own private life as well.
Travis Browne, a married man accused of beating up his wife, announced his relationship with Ronda and opened her up to more public scrutiny. Shortly after, excerpts from Rousey’s book were highlighted, as she detailed how she beat up her ex for taking inappropriate photos of her.
It’s the kind of thing people who aren’t in the spotlight don’t usually have to deal with, but Ronda Rousey is the biggest star in the sport and it comes with the territory. The UFC champ did defend herself though as she was fielded questions about it, saying she didn’t do anything illegal.
“Legally, if somebody blocks your exit, it’s considered kidnapping,” Rousey said (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “I was in that situation before when I got in a fight at a movie theater and my exit was blocked and people wouldn’t let me out. Legally, you cannot do that. It’s considered a self-defense scenario.”
“So if someone is blocking you into an apartment and not letting you leave, you’re entitled to defend yourself and find a way out,” Rousey said. “If you’re trying to grab your car and leave and they’re grabbing your steering wheel and saying that you can’t leave, that’s technically you being kidnapped and you can defend yourself in any ways necessary.”
“I have lawyers that check these things out,” she said with a wink.
As some of the more law-savvy people have pointed out, Rousey may have used the wrong legal term as it’s not technically ‘kidnapping’, but rather ‘false imprisonment’.
