UFC 193 Video: De La Hoya says Rousey taps Mayweather in ’16-17 seconds’

Ronda Rousey is fighting Holly Holm this weekend at UFC 193, but how would she fare against Floyd Mayweather in an MMA fight? It’s a question that has been asked by many uninformed people throughout 2015, and experts are still stumped at this seemingly even matchup. Mayweather has the boxing advantage, as well as the reach advantage, while Rousey has the better grappling and takedowns. These things all clearly cancel each other out, and no one other than Dana White and Joe Rogan has come forward with a definitive answer … until boxing great Oscar De La Hoya talked to Bleacher Report and played out the entire hypothetical fight.

“Ronda taps him out easy, no doubt about it,” De La Hoya said. “Most likely obviously, Mayweather’s going to run. They go in the center of the ring, that’s 5 seconds. By the time that she catches him that’s another 5, [she] taps him out. So I would say about 16-17 seconds.”

Well that’s that debate settled then. An MMA fighter would indeed beat a pro boxer with zero MMA experience in a pro MMA fight. This is huge, if true. But how would Rousey fare in a boxing match with Mayweather? After all, Rousey is on the RING magazine cover (which is owned, by pure coincidence, by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions), and Mayweather said that this makes boxing “look bad.” Much like the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.
