We already know where Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort are putting their faith for the upcoming 2016 presidential elections. The current middleweight champion went on the record to tell fans that Trump is “on the money… on what this country needs.” Likewise, former light heavyweight champion and middleweight contender Vitor Belfort spent several hours entertaining Ben Carson at his gym down in Florida and gave the presidential candidate a ringing endorsement on a recent Inside MMA interview.
Now one of the Democratic presidential candidates is getting their own vocal supporter in the MMA community and it just happens to be from the sport’s biggest star, Ronda Rousey. In an interview with Maxim.com, Rousey made it clear, in the current field of political contenders, she’s a big fan of Bernie Sanders:
“I’m voting for Bernie Sanders, because he doesn’t take any corporate money. I don’t think politicians should be allowed to take money for their campaigns from outside interests.”
…
“If he doesn’t win against Hillary, then I’ll probably vote for a third party again. To be honest, in 2012 I was against both candidates and so I just picked any third party because I thought if more people voted for third parties then they’d have to take third parties seriously.”
Apparently in the 2012 elections, Rousey followed through on her third party support and cast her vote for Roseanne Barr. There aren’t any celebrities working the fringes yet for the 2016 cycle, but it’s already a very crowded field.
