Middleweight Tim Kennedy has a lot on his plate at the moment. He hasn’t fought since UFC 178 though, and has been pretty noncommittal about a return to the Octagon in the recent past. The clarity of his status was confused further by a pair of interviews he did this week.
Kennedy (18-5, 3-1 UFC) is doing the media rounds to promote his new TV show called Hunting Hitler. Basically the premise takes a look at the idea that Hitler may not have died in his bunker in 1945, and might have even made it all the way to South America. In an interview with MMA Junkie about the show, he pegged his possible return to the UFC at “about 50-50” and that his family would much prefer him to be doing TV shows over cage fighting:
“They see that this is a blossoming career for me,” Kennedy said, “and they say, ‘Please do that from now on. Please don’t get hit in the face anymore.’ And that’d be nice. No more guys not getting off stools or guys injecting themselves with whatever. No more drama.”
As a guest on The MMA Hour yesterday though, he came across as more eager to return to fighting, specifically wanting to take on fighters that have tested positive for performance enhancing drugs or were on controversial testosterone replacement therapy before it was banned. Specific names mentioned were the headliners of this weekend’s event in Brazil, Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson, along with former champ Anderson Silva (via MMA Fighting):
“I want to go fight every single one of them and beat the brakes off of them and kind of put a big exclamation mark that this is a new era of the sport, that the clean athletes, we’re going to smash every single one of you cheaters that have historically been making all the big money and cheating your way through it.”
Could Kennedy fight the winner of Belfort/Henderson? It’d certainly be an interesting matchup. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, you can catch Kennedy’s show on The History Channel.
