“Best trash talker in the MMA business” is a status that the American Gangster, Chael Sonnen used to wear proud for the past several years. Now it seems that the retired 38-year old got ousted by a young and brash Irishman, at least according to UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, who called Conor McGregor a trash-talking “genius” during a recent episode of his JRE podcast.
“Conor is the best s— talker ever,” Rogan said. “I think that’s just him, I think he’s just free and just thinks that way. He’s just an amazing s— talker, he’s so good at it.”
With his guest, multiple-time kickboxing world champion John Wayne Parr, he discussed how McGregor is able to switch from being a nice guy to being the trash-talking promotion machine that he is known to be, as soon as a camera is rolling.
“And he wasn’t like that earlier in his career, he became like that really when he got to the UFC,” said Rogan. “I mean he head a hair of that before, he had a little bit of that before, where was confident and he would talk well. I’ve been following Conor for years, I tweeted him a long time ago, like several years ago, back when he was fighting in England. I believe it was — I think it was England, I’m not sure — fighting in some overseas organization, and I watched it on Youtube, and I was like, ‘This guy is f—— talented’.”
Conor McGregor is set to face featherweight champion Jose Aldo in a title unification at UFC 194 on December 12.
